'I belong' – Charlton Athletic man has say on spell so far following summer transfer

Charlton Athletic defender Josh Edwards has said he has ‘loved’ his spell so far.

Charlton Athletic swooped to sign the left-back in June on a four-year deal from Dunfermline Athletic running until the summer of 2028.

Edwards, 24, has since made six appearances in all competitions for the League One side so far, five of which have come in the league.

He has said, as per an interview with London News Online: “It is a better standard. There are so many good players in this league. It is a lot more physical and everyone is a bit bigger, stronger and a bit of a machine. It’s been a great challenge and I’ve loved it. I really wanted to test myself at a higher level and I got that opportunity. I’ve looked like I belong, I felt, to be fair. I’m looking forward to keep getting out on the pitch and doing more.”

He started his career with spells as a youngster at Kilmarnock and Ayr United.

Edwards linked up with Airdrie in 2017 and broke into their first-team before signing for Dunfermline Athletic after two years.

He was a key player during his time with the latter and went on to play 182 games in all competitions, chipping in with 10 goals from the back.

The Kilmarnock-born man helped The Pars gain promotion from Scottish League One back in 2022.

What now?

Edwards will be eager to nail down a regular place in Charlton Athletic’s starting XI.

As he has alluded to, the English third tier is a step up from the level he was playing at in Scotland.

The Addicks beat Birmingham City 1-0 at home last time out in an impressive result following striker Matty Godden’s winner.

They are back in action this weekend after the international break with a clash against Stockport County as they look to rise into the play-offs.
