Birmingham City owner Tom Wagner has said the club could break their transfer record again this summer if they have the ‘headroom’ to do so.

Birmingham City are heading back up to the Championship as League One champions after storming the 2024/25 third-tier campaign. BCFC already have the league wrapped up with six games left to play and are eyeing a record points total.

The Blues have broken several records over this campaign, including their own and the division’s transfer record. A reported fee between £12m and £14m was paid to sign Jay Stansfield from Fulham last summer.

It was by far the biggest outlay in a pricey summer at St. Andrew’s as they embarked on a spending spree rarely seen in the Championship, let alone League One.

And, with second-tier football ahead of lofty ambitions retained, Birmingham City owner Tom Wagner has conceded that they may even break their transfer record again next season.

Asked by Birmingham Live about doing so, the BCFC chief said:

“If we have the headroom, we’ll do it.

“We’ll see. I think at the end of the day, a lot of it is thinking about what do we spend this year versus what we spend in future years? Where’s the talent? What’s the price? Where’s the value?

“All of those are questions that can’t be answered until the window opens, but you know we do have high ambitions and at the same time we will be seeking great value.”
