Wrexham host Barnsley in League One on Tuesday night as two promotion hopefuls meet at the Racecourse Ground.
Wrexham come into their midweek clash with Barnsley looking to maintain their push for a remarkable third consecutive promotion.
The Red Dragons were backed to find success upon the rise to League One and they’ve delivered to this point. They sit 2nd in the third-tier table, though they are four points off leaders Wycombe Wanderers and have played at least one game more than many of the teams around them.
Phil Parkinson’s side have won three of the last four games, keeping clean sheets in all of those triumphs. Last time out, they beat Lincoln City 1-0.
As for Barnsley, they make the journey to Wrexham looking for a return to winning ways in the league.
The Tykes have drawn two and lost one in their last three League One games. They were also eliminated from the FA Cup at the weekend, losing on penalties to divisional rivals Bristol Rovers.
Darrell Clarke and co sit 6th in the League One table but will be eager to return to form.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
James Ray
“Wrexham and Barnsley are two pretty evenly-matched sides but with the Tykes struggling for form and the Red Dragons imperious on home turf, I’m certainly leaning towards a home triumph on Tuesday night.
“Parkinson’s side haven’t been the free-scoring team they have been over the last two seasons but a lot of their recent success has been built on some welcome defensive solidity, which hasn’t always been the case for them.
“Barnsley have a pretty strong away record and will be out to claim a scalp here, but I think they’ll be left wanting more as their poor form continues.
“I’m going for a 2-0 home win.”
Prediction: Wrexham 2-0 Barnsley
Harry Mail
“Wrexham have adapted well to life in League One this season following their promotion from League Two.
“Parkinson’s side are carrying momentum and are a tough side to beat at the Racecourse Ground.
“They will be in confident mood but can’t take Barnsley too lightly. The Tykes are in the play-offs for a reason and can cause problems to any side in this league.
“This will be a close game and it may be separated by the odd goal. I think in the end home advantage will come into play.”
Prediction: Wrexham 2-1 Barnsley
