Luton Town set sights on January swoop for League One talisman
Today at 09:23 AM
Luton Town are considering a move for Wycombe Wanderers hotshot Richard Kone, Football League World has claimed.
Luton Town will be hoping some inspirational January transfer window additions can help turn around their dismal campaign.
The Hatters claimed a huge win last week, defeating Derby County 2-1 at home. The late goals came in fortunate circumstances after another poor display, but Rob Edwards and co will have no complaints given their struggles this season.
It’s clear the squad is capable of far more than they have shown and while injuries haven’t helped, some fresh faces could breathe some life back into this faltering squad.
Now, a new name has been linked with Luton Town.
Football League World claims that the Hatters are eyeing up Wycombe Wanderers forward Richard Kone as a potential January transfer target. The 21-year-old’s return of 12 goals and two assists in 28 games for the high-flying Chairboys has put him on the radar as one of League One’s top prospects.
Since joining in January from non-league side Athletic Newham, Ivorian star Kone has notched a thoroughly impressive 16 goals and six assists in 48 games, making the huge step up with great success.
Paving the way for an exit
Luton Town already have a fair few strikers on their books, so you have to feel a move for Kone or any other striker target sees at least one head for the exit door.
It seems highly unlikely that the Hatters will be letting go of Carlton Morris or Elijah Adebayo given their prevalent roles in Edwards’ first-team. However, that may not be the case for fringe men Joe Taylor or Cauley Woodrow.
Both have found opportunities hard to come by this season. That’s especially damaging for someone like Taylor, who needs game time to continue his development and maximise his potential.
The signing of a striker will almost certainly lead to an exit, it just remains to be seen who moves on.
Kone’s remarkable rise
To jump from the lower reaches of non-league football to League One is a huge enough jump for One to have made. However, if he rises to the Championship with a recent Premier League side within a year of his Wycombe Wanderers move, it would see Kone make a surge up the ladder few have ever replicated.
He’s been a dangerous attacker for a flying Wycombe side, offering goals, assists and exciting attacking play.
It could be just what Luton Town need to get back to their dangerous best as they look to kick their season into action over 2025.
