Matete starts: Bolton Wanderers team news and predicted XI to face Wycombe Wanderers

18/04/2025 04:52
Bolton Wanderers host Wycombe Wanderers on Good Friday in a huge game at the top end of the League One table.
Bolton Wanderers have not had a great season and have underperformed massively. With four games remaining in the season, BWFC are three points outside the play-off places with their fate out of their hands.
The Trotters have improved since Ian Evatt was sacked in the New Year. Steven Schumacher has come in and got the club back into the play-off mix but needs more from his side to finish the job.
Bolton have lost their last two games and were beaten handsomely last weekend. They went to Barnsley who, like BWFC, have had a disappointing season and had four put past them in a 4-1 loss.
Wycombe come to Bolton Wanderers needing to pick up three points to put the pressure on Wrexham in their bid for automatic promotion.
The reverse fixture in this one was a 0-0 draw back in December. Both sides will be hoping for a better result, with a draw not helping either team.
Bolton Wanderers team news
Schumacher has been dealt a tough hand going into the Easter Weekend. Bolton Wanderers midfielder Aaron Morley is confirmed to miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
He picked up the injury last weekend against Barnsley and joins striker Victor Adeboyejo and defender Will Forrester in having his season ended.
Szabi Schön and Josh Sheehan are also missing across the Easter weekend, though they are hoping to return for the Peterborough United game the following weekend.
Jordi Osei-Tutu also came off injured against Barnsley and is facing a late fitness test ahead of this weekend. The same goes for Carlos Mendes Gomes after he pulled out of training on Thursday.
Alex Murphy could feature with BWFC hopeful he can shake off a knock.
Predicted XI
(3-4-1-2)
Baxter, Forino, Santos, Johnston; Dacres-Cogley, Matete, Thomason, Osei-Tutu; Dempsey; Collins, McAtee
Schumacher has his hands tied due to injuries and makes just two changes to his side, both of which are forced due to Sheehan and Morley’s injuries.
Jay Matete comes in to replace Sheehan after his appearance off the bench last week, assisting Aaron Collins’ goal in the 4-1 defeat.
Kyle Dempsey comes in for Aaron Morley in behind Collins and John McAtee.
Osei-Tutu is risked at left wing-back, mainly due to a lack of options with Schon out injured.
