'Momentum has waned' – Bristol Rovers vs Blackpool prediction: The72
Yesterday at 03:38 AM
Bristol Rovers and Blackpool meet on Tuesday night as the Tangerines look for their first League One win since the end of September.
Bristol Rovers come into the game against Blackpool after their second away win of the season, emerging 1-0 victors at high flying Mansfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
A 49th-minute tap-in at the back stick from Luke McCormick gave the travelling side all three points and back-to-back clean sheets. The Gas have now managed six shutouts this season.
Questions have been asked about Matt Taylor’s side recently, but Rovers are now three games unbeaten and are certainly looking like they’re improving.
Blackpool however are now eight league games without a win, certainly not the form they hoped for this season, scoring only six in the process. The Tangerines only sit two places above the drop zone, 19th in the League One table – not where they want to be by any stretch of the imagination.
However, they have beaten Bristol Rovers on the last three occasions, with an overall score of 6-2.
Steve Bruce will be hoping to keep that form against the Gas going in a bid to turn around his side’s season.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Joshua Hemmings
“I personally believe that Bristol Rovers will continue their good form. They have the joint-4th best home form in the league, so I’m predicting a 2-1 Gas win against a Blackpool side that are really struggling as of late.
“Isaac Hutchinson and Luke McCormick could be on the scoresheet if they’re both in from the start.
“Blackpool will see this as an opportunity to get back on track but amid their dismal form, you just can’t back them here.”
Prediction: Bristol Rovers 2-1 Blackpool
James Ray
“Bristol Rovers picked up a really good result at the weekend. Field Mill is not an easy place to go and Mansfield Town have been a stern test for a lot of good sides since rising to League One.
“Hopefully the Gas can take some confidence from that performance and start to put a run together, but consistency has not been the friend of Matt Taylor and co in the first third of the campaign.
“That said, Blackpool are really struggling at the moment. Momentum has waned after a positive start to the Bruce era and with the hosts coming off a good win, I’m leaning towards a home triumph.
“I’ll say Bristol Rovers win a close game to condemn Blackpool to a fifth straight away loss.”
Prediction: Bristol Rovers 2-1 Blackpool
