Wigan Athletic and Wrexham meet in League One on Saturday afternoon with both sides looking to claim an important three points.
Wigan Athletic welcome the visit of Wrexham as they continue their search for a maiden win under Ryan Lowe. WAFC have played four under his lead, drawing three and losing one.
The Latics played out a drab 1-1 draw with Exeter City on Tuesday night. A goal from loan talisman Dale Taylor put them ahead but Reece Cole’s finish pegged them back a little under 20 minutes later.
Wigan Athletic sit 18th in the League One table, seven points above the bottom three with six games left to play.
As for Wrexham, they make the journey to the Brick Community Stadium still sat in 2nd.
The Red Dragons are fighting to join Birmingham City in securing automatic promotion but Wycombe Wanderers remain on their trail. Three points split the two sides after the Chairboys defeated Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.
In their last outing, Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham beat Burton Albion 3-0 on home turf. Second half goals from Steven Fletcher, Sam Smith and Jack Marriott led them to a fourth win in the last five games.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
James Ray
“There’s no doubt Wigan Athletic are going to set up to frustrate Wrexham here. The visitors have the clear edge in quality across the ranks and frankly, they have more reason to be motivated to secure all three points too.
“It hasn’t been a glamorous start to life at WAFC for Ryan Lowe but he’s doing what he can with a group he has inherited. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for them but for the rest of the season, it is just about getting set in the ways of a new manager and planning for the long-term.
“For Wrexham though, it is all on the here and now. They need to keep getting results to stay ahead of Wycombe and I back them to get another here.”
Prediction: Wigan Athletic 0-1 Wrexham
Harry Mail
“Wigan Athletic are pretty much safe and don’t have too much to play for here. However, Ryan Lowe won’t want his WAFC side to lie down.
“It is all about next season for the Latics in truth now though. Their players will be keen to show their manager what they are all about.
“Wrexham will be desperate to win this one as they look to take another step closer to promotion. It could be a tough game though against a Wigan Athletic side who don’t concede too many goals.
“Phil Parkinson has different options he can pick from though and his team should be confident. For that reason, I think they’ll get the win.”
Prediction: Wigan Athletic 1-2 Wrexham
