'Not to be taken lightly' – Crawley Town vs Birmingham City prediction: The72
Today at 02:56 AM
Birmingham City travel to Crawley Town on Monday night with both sides looking to claim a valuable win in League One.
Birmingham City have taken to life in the third tier well, currently sitting in 2nd place behind league leadersWycombe Wanderers.
The Blues have at least one game in hand on all the teams around them with the gap to 4th already being six points. Chris Davies’ side are on a run of four straight wins in the league and will be backing themselves to make it five against a relegation-threatened Crawley Town side.
Birmingham City strolled to a comfortable 2-0 win over now managerless Bristol Rovers last weekend.
Crawley Town have been in some decent form of late though. Rob Elliot has had a respectable start to life with the Red Devils, winning two in a row before defeat last weekend.
They fell short last weekend in a thrilling game away to Peterborough United. Crawley lost the game 4-3, a disappointing outcome after battling back to level the game twice in the second half.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Charlie Hodgson
“Birmingham City will be firm favourites to win this one. Like most games this season, the Blues will be expecting three points.
“Crawley Town have shown signs of light in recent weeks though. They are not be taken lightly under Rob Elliot and have started to get some wins on the board at home.
“Despite that though I think Birmingham will get the win. Crawley will keep the game tight but ultimately, the visitors will be just too good.”
Prediction: Crawley Town 1-2 Birmingham City
James Ray
“Crawley Town have been pretty steady under Rob Elliot, getting important points on the board and putting together a decent run of form before losing to Peterborough United in a hectic game.
“They’re sure to be in for an even tougher test this weekend, even back on home turf.
“The gulf between them and Birmingham City in terms of both stature and financial backing is a big one, there’s no doubt about that. The visitors are in good form too, winning their last four League One games.
“However, the Blues haven’t been the unstoppable force many expected them to be this season. They can be there to be got at and I think Crawley can cause some problems, but perhaps not quite enough to prevent the visitors from winning a fifth straight match.”
Prediction: Crawley Town 1-3 Birmingham City
