Plymouth Argyle have made a bid of £750,000 for Notts County striker Alassana Jatta but the Magpies want more, as per The Guardian.

Plymouth Argyle are fighting to retain their Championship status and need new signings to help them do so. Miron Muslic has taken charge at Home Park and is eager to make a mark on the PAFC squad.

The Pilgrims are rock bottom of the Championship table but will be hoping Muslic can turn things around. The Austrian took over from Wayne Rooney, who left at the end of December.

Plenty of players have been linked with moves to Home Park and it seems the new boss is being backed financially to increase the chances of survival.

Now, claims of a bid from Plymouth Argyle for Notts County star Alassana Jatta have emerged.

According to The Guardian, the Pilgrims have launched a £750,000 move to bring the Gambian talisman up from League Two to the Championship. However, the Magpies are holding out for more, with other £1m wanted for a player signed only last January.

PAFC aren’t the only admirers either. Fellow Championship side Portsmouth are keen too, as are managerless League One outfit Bolton Wanderers.

Starring in League Two

Plymouth Argyle target Jatta only joined Notts County in the winter transfer window of 2024, signing as a future heir to the striker throne held by Macauley Langstaff at the time.

Langstaff would go on to join Millwall and since then, Jatta has made the starting berth his own. He has 15 goals across all competitions this season, also chipping in with four assists in his 23 games for Stuart Maynard’s side.

Overall, Jatta has 20 goals and six assists to his name in 33 games for the club. After starring overseas with Estonian side Paide and Viborg FF of Denmark, the striker’s form is translating well on these shores.

The PAFC striker target also made his Gambia debut in November, scoring against Comoros.

Argyle’s striker ranks

The general consensus is that Plymouth Argyle need to add another striker to their ranks this month. Andre Gray left upon the expiry of his deal at the start of the month, leaving Muslic with three senior strikers.

Ryan Hardie remains on the books while Michael Obafemi and Muhamed Tijani are in on loan. The former has struggled to find form while the latter is only just nearing a return from long-term injury.

An inspirational goalscorer could be just what the Pilgrims need to drag them out of the mire but it remains to be seen if Jatta is that man. If they want to bring him in from Notts County, it seems they’ll need to part ways with more than the £750,000 on offer.
