Rotherham United are in talks with Wrexham January target Jamie Lindsay over a new contract following their relegation from the Championship, as detailed on their official club website.

Rotherham United are interested in keeping hold of the midfielder for next season as they look to bounce back at the first time of asking under the guidance of Steve Evans from League One.

Lindsay, 28, was on Wrexham’s radar this past winter as they chased down promotion from League Two, according to the RRR Podcast. He didn’t end up moving to the Racecourse Ground in the January transfer window as Phil Parkinson’s side ended up finishing 2nd in the table.

His contract with the Millers expires at the end of next month and he is due to become a free agent as things stand. In this latest update regarding his situation on their retained list, he is in ‘discussions’ over an extension.

It remains to be seen whether Wrexham would be keen on reigniting their pursuit of Lindsay over the next couple of months.

Lindsay has been on the books at Rotherham United since 2019 and has been a decent servant to the Yorkshire outfit over recent years.

He has made 156 appearances in all competitions for them to date and has chipped in with eight goals. The Scotsman has helped them go up from League One twice before in the past under Paul Warne.

Prior to his move to England, the ex-Scotland youth international was on the books at Motherwell before linking up with Celtic as a youngster.

Lindsay never played for the Hoops’ first-team but had loan spells away at Dumbarton, Greenock Morton and Ross County to get some experience under his belt before he joined the latter on a permanent basis.

He then scored nine goals in 48 matches during his stint in the Highlands before moving down the border. His future is up in the air right now as Rotherham United talk with him regarding his situation.

What next for Rotherham United and Wrexham?

Rotherham United will want to go up at the first time of asking and keeping Lindsay would be a good move by Evans. He provides useful competition and depth in the middle of the park and knows what it takes to get out of that league.

As for Wrexham, they need to keep their momentum going ahead of next season and are expected to be busy on the transfer front. They have ambitious plans to rise up the leagues under their Hollywood owners but have a decision to make as to whether to turn to Lindsay again or go for other options.
