Rotherham United boss Steve Evans has said Liam Kelly and Sean Raggett will be back in training this week.

Rotherham United have been without the pair over recent times but they aren’t too far off returning now. They are hoping they can return this weekend away at Peterborough United in their upcoming League One clash.

The Millers face Newcastle United Under-21’s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy on Tuesday night but the duo aren’t expected to feature in that game.

In this latest update regarding their conditions, Evans has said, as per a report by the Rotherham Advertiser: “They’re big players for us. Liam isn’t far away and neither is Sean. We’re hoping they’ll be back in training fully next week. I always leave that to the medical guys and listen to what they say. Our head of medical, Chris Royston, will say I’m absolutely phenomenal to work with!”

Getting both players back for Peterborough United on Saturday would be a big boost for Rotherham United.

Kelly was signed over the summer to add more competition and depth to their midfield ranks. He also injects experience into their squad.

He has played just under 450 games in his career so far and has had spells in the past at Kilmarnock, Bristol City, Oldham Athletic, Leyton Orient and Coventry City.

The 34-year-old spent seven years with the latter and helped them rise from League Two to the Championship.

As for Raggett, Rotherham United landed him in May on a two-year deal to bolster their defence.

The centre-back helped Portsmouth win the third tier title in the last campaign before heading out the Fratton Park exit door.

Evans will have a decision to make about whether to throw him into the starting XI when he is back fit again.

What now?

Rotherham United won 2-1 at home to Reading last time out after goals by Sam Nombe and Hakeem Odoffin.

They are 17th in the table and will want to build some momentum.

It has been a slow start for the Millers and they need to start hitting more form.
