Rotherham United talks over permanent appointment of 43-year-old confirmed

Rotherham United are considering making caretaker boss Matt Hamshaw their permanent boss, he has told the Rotherham Advertiser.
Rotherham United have not had a good season back in League One. After being backed as early promotion contenders, RUFC are set to finish mid-table and have little to play for in the final weeks.
However, after what has been a disastrous campaign, the mood around the club has been turned around recently. Caretaker boss Matt Hamshaw has been the main reason behind this, with the club winning three out of three since he arrived.
And, it could be that he is rewarded for his good work too.
Speaking to the Rotherham Advertiser, Hamshaw revealed he is in ‘constant contact’ with the Rotherham United hierarchy over the possibility of his permanent appointment. He said:
“We’re in constant contact. It’s something we’re both thinking about, otherwise I wouldn’t be sitting here talking to you now.
“We’ll see how things go and we’ll make a decision together.”
The report adds RUFC could even make an announcement regarding his appointment next week.
Hamshaw has been in the job for around two weeks after taking over when Steve Evans was sacked. The three wins in a row have seen them rise to 12th in League One.
A dream start to a dream job?
Hamshaw is a lifelong Rotherham United fan, though during his playing career he never managed to play for his hometown club.
Since his retirement, he has worked his way through the ranks at the club. He was a key man under Paul Warne and played a part in three promotions from League One under the former boss.
He left the club with Warne and joined Derby County, where he achieved another promotion to the Championship. This would be his first full-time head coach role and for him, it is a job he has been dreaming of for years.
Could Hamshaw take them to the next level?
The last few Rotherham United bosses have failed to take the club beyond where they started. Championship. Warne was no doubt the most successful, taking the Millers to the Championship but failing to really establish themselves in the second-tier.
Leam Richardson and now Evans have failed to take the club to the next level but after his role in Warne’s success, perhaps Hamshaw now earns the chance to be the lead man in the dugout.
Hamshaw is showing promising signs in the early days of his RUFC tenure. However, if he is given the permanent gig, he needs to keep this run going across a whole season.
