Rotherham United to hold contract 'conversations' with pair amid Matt Hamshaw update

16/04/2025 10:03
Rotherham United boss Matt Hamshaw has said they will hold ‘conversations’ with Hakeem Odoffin and Cameron Humphreys about extending their stays.
Rotherham United are keen to keep hold of the pair this summer. Both players see their deals with RUFC expire at the end of the season.
The Millers risk losing the duo for nothing in late June if they can’t agree extensions. They are sat in 13th place in the League One table with four fixtures left to play.
Hamshaw has said, as per a report by the Rotherham Advertiser: “Haks and Cam have done very well this season. We want to try to keep our best players. We’ll be doing our damnedest to try to keep them. Any manager or coach here would want to work with those two next season. It will come down to the players, their representatives and me trying to convince them to stay. Conversations will certainly take place with them.”
He added: “Other teams might come in and the players might want a change of scenery,” he said. “It isn’t always down to the club’s offer. If we lose out it’s not ‘Wow, it’s the end of the world’, it’s ‘Wow, who’s next?'”
Rotherham United want to keep Hakeem Odoffin and Cameron Humphreys
It would be a blow if Rotherham United lost Odoffin and Humphreys leave on free transfer. Hamshaw will be hoping that his recent appointment can persuade them to stay put.
Odoffin, 26, has made 47 appearances in all competitions in this campaign and has scored seven goals. He has been with the Millers since joining them in 2021.
The Londoner can play in either midfield or defence which is useful. He has had spells in the past at Barnet, Wolves, Northampton Town, Livingston and Hamilton Academical.
As for Humphreys, the centre-back is a key player for Rotherham United at the back. He has played 36 league matches this term.
The South Yorkshire outfit snapped him up in 2022. The former Manchester City man was playing in Belgium for Zulte Waregem before returning to England.
Will Rotherham United keep Hakeem Odoffin and Cameron Humphreys?
It remains to be seen at this stage whether Rotherham United will be able to keep Odoffin and Humphreys. They are free to explore other opportunities and see what options are available out there.
If they leave, the Millers will need to find replacements. They have the chance to bring in some new players when the next window opens for business.
In the meantime, Hamshaw will assess his squad and decide who to keep and sell. He has done an impressive job in caretaker charge since Steve Evans’ sacking and will be looking forward to the future now after landing the full-time gig.
