Sheffield United still want Harrison Burrows despite their pursuit of Sam McCallum, a report from The Star has clarified.

Sheffield United are in for a big transfer window as they prepare to drop back down to the Championship.

It was a dismal season in the Premier League, but the Blades will have to leave the disappointment behind and turn full focus to building a squad strong enough to fight for promotion straight back to the top-flight.

Numerous players have been linked with moves to Bramall Lane, with Peterborough United star Harrison Burrows among them. He’s widely expected to move up from League One after a stunning campaign with his hometown club.

The pursuit was brought into question somewhat as conflicting claims emerged, followed by reports of a nearing deal for left-back Sam McCallum.

However, The Star has now clarified that Sheffield United remain in pursuit of Burrows. Their chase to sign departing Norwich City man McCallum is separate as they look to bolster their options on the left-hand side.

For now though, the ongoing takeover talks continue to hinder the Blades’ ability to pay big fees for players. As such, the Burrows chase is slowing.

Who is this?

Wait and see

For the time being, it feels as though Sheffield United fans can’t do much but wait and see how the takeover saga pans out before meaningful moves can be made in the transfer market.

Of course, they can still find success in free transfer moves. However, cash deals for the likes of Burrows look as though they’ll have to wait.

That is either until the takeover is done or a big asset is sold and funds are raised for signings to come through the doors.

It’s frustrating for the Blades as they try not to fall behind in their bid to prepare for next season. However, it’s a necessary wait, with the current incumbents obviously looking to avoid spending further on a club they are looking to move on from.

A deserved move

It remains to be seen just when the switch can be finalised, but the step up to the Championship is a richly deserved one for Burrows.

He has long been a key player for the Posh, emerging from the academy and displaying his abilities in a range of positions. However, he found a home at left-back last season and enjoyed his best campaign to date.

Burrows returned a stunning 12 goals and 18 assists across all competitions, becoming club captain after Peter Kioso’s winter exit too.

The 22-year-old is ready for regular Championship football and there’s great excitement over just what could be to come for Burrows.

It looks as though Sheffield United will be his next club, but with continued uncertainty hampering transfer business, it remains to be seen just when he can link up with the Blades.
