Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones has labelled Matty Godden as a ‘stellar professional’.
Charlton Athletic are sat in 4th place in the League One table as they eye promotion. CAFC are inside the play-offs with Wycombe Wanderers, Stockport County and Huddersfield Town.
Godden, 33, joined up with the Addicks last summer. He has since scored 15 goals in all competitions for the London outfit.
Jones has been impressed and has said, as per a report by London News Online: “Absolutely we expected it. His track record says it. We invested in him on every level – he has a track record of scoring goals. We brought him in to add the firepower and he has.
“But he is so much more than goals, Matty Godden. Matty Godden is a stellar professional and wonderful human being. It is the way he talks and demands from people. He is a joy to be around and does a lot of my job for me.
“That is one bonus of experienced players – provided you get the right ones and we have added the right ones here. We have got people like Matty Godden, Luke Berry and Danny Hylton who have been there and done it.”
Charlton Athletic’s Matty Godden hailed
Charlton Athletic landed Godden to boost their attacking department.
He provides the Addicks with more competition and depth up top and injects experience into their squad.
The forward joined his previous club Coventry City back in 2019 and he was a great servant to the Sky Blues.
The forward made 155 appearances in all competitions for them under their former boss Mark Robins and chipped in with 50 goals.
Godden still had another year left on his Coventry City deal but they decided to cash in on him ahead of this campaign to eradicate the risk of losing him for free.
Prior to his move there, he had spells at Scunthorpe United, Ebbsfleet United, Stevenage and Peterborough United.
Will Charlton Athletic get promoted from League One?
Charlton Athletic are in a strong position to go up, despite losing 3-0 away at Peterborough United last time out.
They have been consistent so far in 2025 and have proved to be a tough side to play against.
Jones’ men are back in action this weekend with a home clash against fellow promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town as they look to bounce back from their loss to the Posh.
