Stevenage in talks with 27-year-old over return to England

Stevenage are in talks with Hibernian goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott, according to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page.

Stevenage are looking to lure the stopper back down to England this summer as they prepare for another year in League One. They finished just outside the play-offs last season and will be hoping to compete at the top end of the table again next time around.

Wollacott, 27, made the move up to Scotland in June last year and penned a three-year deal with Hibs. However, he has played only seven games for the Edinburgh outfit, six of which have come in the Scottish Premiership.

In this latest update regarding his situation by journalist Nixon on his Patreon page, Boro are eager to bring him back to the Football League to bolster their goalkeeping department. Alex Revell is their new permanent boss following Steve Evans’ exit to Rotherham United and is in the hunt for signings.

Stevenage in goalkeeper talks

Wollacott would be a shrewd addition for Stevenage if they are able to get a deal over the line.

He rose up through the academy ranks at Bristol City but never made a senior appearance for the Championship side.

Instead, he picked up experience away from Ashton Gate during loan spells at Weymouth, Bath City, Woking, Truro City, Forest Green Rovers and Swindon Town.

The latter then snapped him up permanently in 2021 and he went on to make 41 appearances for the Robins in all competitions.

Charlton Athletic lured him up to the third tier in 2022 and he played 20 matches for the Addicks altogether before he left for Hibs.

What next?

Wollacott, who has made 11 caps for Ghana, has been on the move a lot over recent years and could do with laying down some roots somewhere.

His move to Hibs hasn’t really worked out and he isn’t guaranteed regular football with the Scottish club.

They are on their third manager now since he went there and he could do with finding a team with more stability.

Stevenage would fit the bill for him and he would be likely to get regular minutes in Hertfordshire.
