Swansea City boss opens up on failed bid to sign player from Birmingham City in the summer

Swansea City boss Luke Williams has confirmed the club were after Siriki Dembele during the summer transfer window.
Swansea City weren’t the most active of clubs in the summer transfer window but they were still able to get a good few bodies through the door.
While the likes of new midfielder Goncalo Franco have impressed, it’s been a poor start to the season for the Swans. They sit 17th in the Championship table and are currently six league games without a win.
More was hoped of their summer window and their shortcomings haven’t helped their bid for progress. Now, head coach Luke Williams is preparing to come up against a player he hoped to bring in.
Swansea City face Oxford United this weekend and ahead of the game, Williams confirmed that the club were interested in signing new U’s winger Siriki Dembele. The Scot moved back to the Championship after Birmingham City were relegated.
“There was [truth in that],” the Swansea City chief told Wales Online when asked about interest.
“We weren’t able to reach a deal. I think is a very good player, a very accomplished player.
“I can’t tell you what they offered him because I don’t know. Maybe the player just preferred the club or the manager. I don’t know exactly what the reason was, but I know we were not in the running in the end.”
