Birmingham City are back in League One action this weekend with a home clash against Blackpool.

Birmingham City are top of the table as they eye an immediate promotion to the Championship. They were relegated last season after finishing in the bottom three of the second tier along with Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United.

The Blues turned to Chris Davies as their manager in the summer. Prior to his move to the Midlands, he had spells as the number two of the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Celtic.

Birmingham City beat Burton Albion 2-0 on Boxing Day. Jay Stansfield managed to add to his goal tally against the Brewers.

As for Blackpool, they were beaten 2-1 away at Wrexham last time out. Ashley Fletcher got their goal at the Racecourse Ground.

The Tangerines are currently sat in 15th place in the league. They have the chance to bolster their ranks with some new faces in the upcoming January transfer window and also have the opportunity to let some players leave.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

Birmingham City will be too strong here if they show up and play their usual game.

“The Blues’ squad is littered with top quality talent for League One level and they have been in decent form recently.

Blackpool could do with some new signings this winter to bolster their ranks.

“They have an experienced boss in Steve Bruce but they are in for a tough test against Birmingham City and I can’t see them getting anything against them.”

Prediction: Birmingham City 2-0 Blackpool

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

James Ray

Blackpool had been on a decent run of form before the narrow Wrexham loss but they’re in for another tough game this weekend as they now head to title favourites Birmingham City.

“The Blues have been in solid form too, winning six in a row now. They’ve kept five clean sheets in that time too, so they’ll be out to win to nil again here.

“I’ll be backing them to do so too, but I can see the Tangerines making this a pretty tight encounter.

“Ultimately though, the hosts will triumph.”

Prediction: Birmingham City 1-0 Blackpool
