Wigan Athletic are back in League One action on Tuesday night with a home clash against Stevenage at The Brick Community Stadium.

Wigan Athletic head into their upcoming fixture on the back of a 0-0 draw away at Lincoln City over the weekend. They weren’t able to find the net against the Imps and returned to the North West with a point.

Shaun Maloney’s side find themselves in 14th position in the table after winning two of their first six games. They are four points off the play-offs.

The Latics delved into the transfer window over the summer to bring in the likes of Joe Hugill, Silko Thomas, Jensen Weir and Toby Sibbick, among others, to bolster their ranks. They also waved goodbye to players such as Charlie Hughes, Stephen Humphrys, Jordan Jones and Tom Pearce to free up space and funds in their squad.

As for Stevenage, they are sat down in 15th place in the league and were beaten 2-0 away at Exeter City last time out. They lost manager Steve Evans to Rotherham United earlier this year and replaced him with Alex Revell.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

Wigan Athletic are a young side but have some exciting players in their ranks like Thelo Aasgaard, Joe Hugill and Silko Thomas. If they show up against Stevenage, they should have too much.

“Maloney’s side beat Bristol Rovers 4-0 before their draw away at Lincoln City which shows they can create chances and cause problems to opponents.

Stevenage will be disappointed after losing at Exeter City and they haven’t been able to string together a set of results yet this season.

“They have been too inconsistent and it could be a campaign of struggle unless they can start finding a bit of rhythm. I can’t see them getting anything against the Latics.”

Prediction: Wigan Athletic 2-1 Stevenage

James Ray

Wigan Athletic might not have found consistency yet but I’m confident results are coming for them. They might just get one against a struggling Stevenage here too.

“Boro punched above their weight last season and after losing Steve Evans, it was always going to be an uphill battle to maintain those levels. They should be fine, but I can see them being beaten here.

“This is a game that the Latics should be winning, and I’ll back them to do just that. I’ll say this ends 2-1.”

Prediction: Wigan Athletic 2-1 Stevenage
