Birmingham City host Burton Albion in their upcoming League One clash on Boxing Day.

Birmingham City won 1-0 away at Crawley Town last time out. Attacker Jay Stansfield scored a late winner against the Red Devils.

Chris Davies’ side are sat top of the table as they eye an immediate promotion back to the Championship. They were relegated to the third tier last season after finishing in the bottom three along with Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United.

The Midlands outfit are a point above 2nd place Wycombe Wanderers. They also have a game in-hand on the Chairboys.

As for Burton Albion, they find themselves in 23rd position in the league and are in a battle for survival. They are in the drop zone along with Shrewsbury Town, Cambridge United and Crawley Town.

The Brewers have recently turned to former Bradford City, Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers man Gary Bowyer as their new boss. They are hoping he is the man who can keep them up this term.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

Birmingham City will be too strong for Burton Albion if they show up.

“The Blues had to be patient against Crawley Town but Stansfield’s quality shone through again to help them pick up all three points.

“The Brewers have struggled so far this season and will hope that Bowyer’s arrival can spark an upturn in form.

“He has the hardest possible first away game in charge though and I can’t see them getting anything.”

Prediction: Birmingham City 2-0 Burton Albion

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

James Ray

“It doesn’t get much tougher for Bowyer in his first game in charge of Burton Albion.

“He’s up against a Birmingham City side that is far and away the most expensive one that the third-tier has ever seen and just to make things tougher, they’ve won five in a row while conceding just once in that run.

“The Blues might not be blowing teams out of the water but quite simply, they’re winning. That’s all that matters in the bid to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

“Given the gulf between the two, I’ll go for a straightforward home win.”

Prediction: Birmingham City 2-0 Burton Albion
