Wigan Athletic want to snap up Ronan Darcy from Crawley Town, according to Wigan Today.
Wigan Athletic are keen to lure the attacking midfielder to the North West before the end of the January transfer window. WAFC have until the deadline to get a deal over the line.
Darcy, 24, has made 25 appearances in all competitions so far this season, 21 of which have come in League One, and he has scored two goals and picked up six assists. His contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of the season and he is due to become a free agent in the summer as things stand.
In this latest update regarding his situation, Wigan Today claim he has emerged as a target for the Latics. They could see him as an ideal replacement for Thelo Aasgaard, who has left the club for a new challenge at Luton Town.
Wigan Athletic eye Crawley Town’s Ronan Darcy
Wigan Athletic have been dealt a blow following Aasgaard’s departure to the Championship.
Darcy would have big shoes to fill and has been in decent form over recent times.
The Merseyside-born man joined Crawley Town in 2023 and helped them gain promotion from League Two last year along with Stockport County, Wrexham and Mansfield Town by scoring six times.
The Red Devils’ boss Rob Elliot said earlier this month, as per SussexWorld: “Obviously your best player is always going to get attention and especially stepping up a level. Darcy has been brilliant but from my point of view, Darcy’s part of the squad and hopefully over this two-week break we might be able to see him back involved in some capacity for the next game.”
Darcy rose up through the academy ranks at Bolton Wanderers and was a regular at various different youth levels.
He went on to play 35 matches for the Trotters as a youngster and found the net twice, as well as having loan spells away at Skelmersdale United, Sogndal and Queen’s Park to get some experience under his belt.
Swindon Town signed him permanently in 2022 and he spent 12 months with the Robins before Crawley Town came calling and he hasn’t looked back since.
What now for Wigan Athletic target Ronan Darcy?
Wigan Athletic would suit Darcy as it would see him move back up north.
He should get plenty of game time with the Latics as well following Aasgaard’s exit.
