Morecambe boss Ged Brannan has left to join Accrington Stanley’s coaching staff, as announced by their official club website.

Morecambe are now in the hunt for a new manager to lead them into next season.

The Shrimps finished 15th in the League Two table in this past campaign.

Here is a look at three candidates they should consider for their vacant position…

John Coleman

The 61-year-old is a vastly experienced coach in the Football League and would be a safe pair of hands for Morecambe. He cut ties with Accrington Stanley in March after 10 years in charge of the North West outfit and is currently weighing up his next move in the game.

Coleman, who has also had spells at Ashton United, Rochdale, Southport and Sligo Rovers in the past, has overseen 1,281 matches from the dugout so far in his managerial career. He guided Stanley to promotion to League One in 2018.

Gary Bowyer

He could see the Shrimps’ vacancy as an opportunity to get back into the game. The Mancunian has been available since cutting ties with Dundee last summer after getting them promoted to the Scottish Premiership.

Bowyer has had stints at Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Bradford City and Salford City and knows the fourth tier inside out now. He would be a shrewd appointment if the hierarchy at the Mazuma Stadium decide to turn to him.

Who is this?

John Askey

The former Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale man worked wonders on a tight budget during his Macclesfield Town days. Askey last worked at Hartlepool United in the National League and is without a team right now.

He would be worth a look by Morecambe as they look to bring in Brannan’s replacement and is another potential candidate who would fit the bill.
