Barrow have cut ties with Stephen Clemence, as announced by their official club website.

Barrow are now in the hunt for a new manager and have a big decision to make. Their assistant manager Robbie Stockdale has also left.

Clemence, 46, joined the League Two side last summer and lasted eight months in charge. Prior to joining the Cumbrian outfit, he spent time last season at Gillingham.

Chairman Paul Hornby has said: “Stephen came in over the Summer and we had high hopes to build on his considerable coaching ability and reputation. We’ve built a strong squad of players together and enjoyed some memorable early success including our Carabao Cup exploits.

“Stephen has always conducted himself with great dignity and professionalism but unfortunately our recent extended run of poor results has led us to the decision that it was time to make a change. We would like to thank Stephen for his hard work and dedication to the club and wish him well for the future.”

Here is a look at three candidates to replace him…

Phil Parkinson

He has worked wonders with Altrincham in the National League and was considered by Carlisle United earlier in this campaign, as per reporter Pete O’Rourke on X. The 43-year-old has been in charge of his current club since 2017 having previously been at Nantwich Town.

Alty reached the play-offs last year after finishing in 4th position. They are currently sat in 6th place in the table at the moment as they eye another promotion push.

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

Michael Appleton

The Mancunian is a vastly experienced coach in the Football League and has been out of the game for coming up close to a year now. He could see the Barrow job as an opportunity to get back into the dugout.

Appleton, who is 49-years-old, has had managerial spells in the past at Portsmouth, Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers, Oxford United, Lincoln City and Charlton Athletic. He has also worked in the backroom staff team at Leicester City.

Paul Hurst

He has guided Grimsby Town to promotion to the fourth tier on two occasions in the past. The Yorkshireman also got Shrewsbury Town to the League One play-off final back in 2018.

Hurst has overseen over 750 games as a manager so far in his career and is available right now meaning he is an option for Barrow. The former Ipswich Town and Scunthorpe United man parted company with the Shrews in November following his second spell there and will be weighing up his options.
