Bradford City are just about keeping pace with the League Two play-off race, and they have a youngster preparing for a starring role.

Bradford City currently sit 7th in the League Two table in a somewhat indifferent start to their 2024/25 campaign.

The Bantams have won six and drawn four of their opening 14 games so far this season. Their last game saw the West Yorkshire side beaten 2-1 on Saturday by South Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster Rovers

One player catching the eye more at Valley Parade is right-wing starlet Bobby Pointon. The local prospect broke through last season and is continuing on the right trajectory across his 12 appearances this season.

Pointon on the rise

Across 12 League Two games this season, seven as a substitute, Pointon has underlined both the threat and potential that he has.

The 20-year-old has two goals to his name so far – coming against Bromley and Newport County – and has registered an assist, also against the Exiles. Another goal has come against Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy.

He enjoyed his breakthrough in the Bantams’ 2023/24 League Two campaign. Across that league season, Pointon scored four goals and registered three assists, also making six appearances in the EFL Trophy, assisting in a 2-1 win against Grimsby Town.

Such is Bradford City’s faith in Pointon, they recently rewarded him with a two-year contract extension. This takes his time with the Bantams up to the summer of 2026.

Whichever way you look at it, Pointon is a young footballer on the rise. Fans are seeing it; the club is seeing it, and what is being seen will likely build over Bradford City’s 2024/25 League Two campaign.

What next for Pointon?

With two goals and an assist already this season League Two competition, Pointon is already out of the starting blocks for Bradford City. Bantams fans are likely to be happy with what they have seen so far from him.

However, fan affection is fickle and those on the terraces will always want to see more from any player. That will be the same for these fans and the same for what they levy against young attacker Pointon.

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

So, what can be the next for Pointon? Well, first up he will be looking to consolidate his place in Graham Alexander’s starting XI over the rest of the campaign. That will give the local youngster a solid base and foundation to build from.

From this base, Pointon could kick on and establish himself in the side. A realistic target for him would be to aim for more goals and assists, which will not only further endear him to the home faithful, but it might not be long before other clubs take note of his talents.

Pointon could be poised to explode after his breakthrough campaign but patience must be taken as he cuts his teeth in the senior game at a professional level after a few non-league loans.
