Six appearances followed on for him, four of which came in the Premier League, before he was loaned out to Bury, Boston United and Livingston to get some experience under his belt.

Kennedy went on to have permanent spells at Darlington and Rochdale before Bradford City came calling.

He played 37 games for the Bantams during his two-year stint at Valley Parade when they were in League One.

Carlisle United swooped in for him in 2015 and he became a key player for the Cumbrian outfit. He made 107 outings before dropping into non-league.

Kennedy has since featured for Hartlepool United, Spennymoor Town and Marske United.

What now?

He will be weighing up what to do next, whether that be stay in football or do something else.

His former team Middlesbrough are currently sat in 8th in the Championship table under Michael Carrick.

Meanwhile, Bradford City and Carlisle United battle it out in League Two these days.
