Gillingham are eyeing a move for Ayr United defender George Stanger, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke on X.

Gillingham are being linked with a late January transfer window swoop for the centre-back. They have until the deadline on Monday to seal a deal.

Stanger, 24, sees his contract at Ayr United expire at the end of the season and he is due to become available in the summer. He has made 30 appearances in all competitions so far in this campaign under the guidance of former Fleetwood Town boss Scott Brown, 22 of which have come in the Scottish Championship, and he has chipped in with one goal.

In this latest update regarding his future this winter, reporter O’Rourke has posted on X that the Gills are ‘lining up’ a bid for the player. They are currently sat in 17th place in the League Two table following their 1-1 draw at Grimsby Town last time out.
