Walsall defender Oisin McEntee has emerged on the radar of Hibernian, according to a report by the Daily Record.

Walsall could face a battle to keep hold of the centre-back this summer. He is out of contract in June and is due to become a free agent as things stand.

McEntee, 24, has made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Saddlers this season, 24 of which have come in the league, and he has chipped in with one assist from the back. Mat Sadler’s side remain top of the League Two table as they eye promotion to League One.

According to the Daily Record, Hibs have played the player on their radar as they look to bolster their defensive ranks ahead of the next campaign. David Gray’s side are positioned in 3rd behind Celtic and Rangers and drew 1-1 away at Kilmarnock in their last outing before the international break.

Walsall’s Oisin McEntee wanted by Hibernian

Losing McEntee would be a blow for Walsall, especially on a free transfer.

He has been a solid player for the Saddlers this term and has helped them rise to the summit.

The New York-born man joined the Midlands outfit back in 2022 and saw his deal extended a year later until 2025.

McEntee has enjoyed plenty of game time over the past couple of years.

After joining Walsall at the age of 21, he said at the time, as per BBC Sport: “I’m buzzing and I’m looking forward to getting started. I like to drive out with the ball, I’m comfortable on the ball, I’m quite physical and I enjoy a tackle as well.

“I want to integrate and show what I’m about. Walsall was the right fit for me. Hopefully I will help out the team on the pitch.”

McEntee started his career in Ireland with spells at Cootehill, Carrick Rovers, Belvedere and Malahide United.

Newcastle United lured him over to England in 2017 and he spent five years on the books of the North East club, as well as having a loan spell away at Greenock Morton up in Scotland to get some experience under his belt.

Will Oisin McEntee stay at Walsall?

It remains to be seen whether McEntee will stay put at Walsall or move on later this year amid links to Hibernian.

The Saddlers are one point above Bradford City and take on AFC Wimbledon this weekend.
