Chelsea and Morecambe meet in the FA Cup third round this weekend in a classic David vs Goliath clash in the prestigious competition.
Chelsea and Morecambe meet in the FA Cup this weekend with the hosts sure to be favourites to progress to the fourth round of the competition.
Form has been hard to come by for the Premier League side over Christmas and New Year having gone four games without a win. However, the Blues sit 4th in the Premier League table and will be expected to mount a push for the cup this season.
Enzo Maresca’s side have a rich FA Cup history, winning the tournament eight times. They made three consecutive finals from 2019 to 2022 but won none and last season, they were eliminated by Manchester City in the semi-final.
As for Morecambe, they make the long journey down to Chelsea fighting for their Football League status.
Derek Adams’ side sit 23rd in the League Two table as it stands, four points from safety with a game in hand on Swindon Town above them. Last time out, the Shrimps picked up a big 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers, so they make the trip to Stamford Bridge in high spirits.
It will be hoped they’re backed in good numbers this weekend as fans make the most of a day out at a prestigious ground.

“However, it’s very hard to see Morecambe coming away from this victorious. Inevitable rotation from Chelsea could give the League Two side an avenue into the game, perhaps looking to unsettle and rattle a rotated group early on.
“However, even with significant changes, the expectation will be for the hosts to win comfortably. I’ll be predicting that to happen but will be amongst the many hoping for a big surprise.”

“Chelsea should be way too strong for Morecambe, even if they do make some changes to their team.
“Nevertheless, this tie will be a great experience for the players of the visitors, as well as their fans.
