Hull City swooped to sign former Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp last winter to boost their attacking department.

Hull City handed the striker a deal until the end of the season as they chased down a play-off spot under former boss Liam Rosenior.

Sharp, 38, made 13 appearances for the Tigers in all competitions, the majority of which came off the bench, but he wasn’t able to score for the Championship side.

They ended up missing out on the top six by three points in the end. The East Yorkshire outfit also decided not to extend his stay at the MKM Stadium and he became a free agent in late June before he was snapped up by Doncaster Rovers in League Two.

Sharp jumped at the chance to move back to the Eco-Power Stadium and is now working under former Hull City boss Grant McCann.

The veteran has made a positive impression for the Yorkshire club so far and has given them more competition and depth up top.

He has also injected valuable experience into their ranks as they look to gain promotion to League One. They lost in the play-offs in the last campaign at the semi-finals stage to Crewe Alexandra on penalties.

Sharp has played 17 matches in all competitions for Doncaster Rovers since his switch and has been getting plenty of game time.

The Sheffield-born man has scored five goals altogether, four of which have come in the league.

He scored away at Bradford City at Valley Parade over the weekend and his goal ended up being his side’s winner. They are now sat in 4th position and are outside the top three on goal difference.

Sharp has played over 700 matches in his career to date and has also had spells in the past at Sheffield United, Scunthorpe United, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Reading, Leeds United and La Galaxy.

What now?

He will want to get more goals over the coming weeks and months for Doncaster Rovers and isn’t ready to hang up his boots anytime soon.

His deal runs out in June 2025 and they will have a decision to make about whether to keep him beyond that.
