'I'm sure' – Former Bradford City player in bold League Two title verdict amid battle with Walsall

03/26/2025 07:09 AM
Former Bradford City striker Aaron McLean has said he is ‘sure’ that the Bantams will pip Walsall to the League Two title.
Bradford City are sat in 2nd place behind the Saddlers in the table. BCAFC are only one point behind now with eight fixtures left to play this season.
Graham Alexander’s side won 4-1 at home to Colchester United last time out. Calum Kavanagh and George Lapslie both scored twice against the U’s as they picked up a useful three points.
The club’s ex-attacker McLean, who also had spells with the likes of Peterborough United and Hull City, has said, as per Sky Sports: “They (Walsall) were on an incredible run and at one point it looked like they could have the title wrapped up by now. But all of a sudden Nathan Lowe goes back to Stoke and their season almost falls off a cliff.
“It shows how well they did at the beginning of the season that they’re still top, but now they are clinging on by their fingernails.I’m sure Bradford will go and overtake them and win the league. Walsall will be lucky if they can stay in that top three The next couple of weeks are huge and they need to put some wins on the board.”
Bradford City promotion latest
Bradford City lost two matches on the spin against Gillingham and Tranmere Rovers without scoring a goal before their victory over Colchester United.
They should be in confident mood after seeing off the U’s and will want to keep their momentum going over the coming weeks.
Their immediate focus will be on getting over the line and into League One via the top three.
The Bantams can then shift their focus to winning the trophy ahead of Walsall. AFC Wimbledon and Port Vale are also up there but are six points off the summit.
As McLean alluded to, Nathan Lowe was recalled by Stoke City from his loan spell with the Saddlers in January and they haven’t recovered from that.
He was their top scorer and they have massively missed his influence at the top end of the pitch.
Will Bradford City get promoted from League Two?
The signs are promising for Bradford City and apart from their blip against both Gillingham and Tranmere Rovers, they have been strong in 2025.
The Bantams are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Accrington Stanley.
