Notts County goalkeeper Aidan Stone has joined Boston United on loan, as announced by their X account.

Notts County have let the stopper link up with the National League side on a temporary basis until January. He made his debut for his new team in their 2-0 away loss at Gateshead on Tuesday night.

Stone, 25, hasn’t made an appearance for his parent club so far this season and has been given the green light to head out the exit door at Meadow Lane to get some games this winter. His contract with the League Two outfit expires in June 2025 meaning he has entered the final 12 months of his deal and is due to become a free agent next year.

In this latest update, the Magpies have confirmed on X that he has left for Boston United. They will have a decision to make on what to do next with him when he returns.

Notts County loan exit

Notts County have Alex Bass and Sam Slocombe ahead of Stone in the pecking order.

They signed the former England Schoolboys man back in June 2023 and he went on to play 25 games in all competitions in the last campaign, 23 of which came in the league as they finished 14th in the table.

He started his career in non-league with spells at Sporting Khalsa and Brocton before Burnley landed him in 2017.

The Stafford-born man spent two years at Turf Moor, some of which he spent at Lancaster City, before linking up with Mansfield Town.

Stone went on to feature on 28 occasions for the Stags and was also loaned out to Widnes.

Port Vale then brought him in back in 2021 as competition for their goalkeeping department and he made 54 appearances for the Valiants before switching to Notts County.

What now?

Stone has been playing in the Football League on a consistent basis up until this term.

However, he missed the chance to leave the Magpies before the end of the window last month which has meant he has had to drop down into non-league now.
