Blackburn Rovers let go of midfielder John Fleck this summer and now, the Derbyshire Times states he is training with Chesterfield.

Blackburn Rovers saw a number of players move on from the club this summer.

The Championship side offloaded some on permanent deals while others headed out temporarily to gain minutes elsewhere. There were also a handful who moved on upon the expiry of their contracts though, with midfielder Fleck among them.

Talks were ongoing over a stay, but it seems that door has closed with no further update.

The former Scotland international only moved to Ewood Park from Sheffield United in the winter but an injury-hit stint yielded just one appearance and he moved on at the end of his short-term contract.

Fleck has remained without a club since, but an update on his whereabouts have emerged.

According to a report from the Derbyshire Times, the released Blackburn Rovers midfielder has linked up with League Two side Chesterfield. He is training with Paul Cook’s squad while he remains a free agent.

It is said that it remains unknown whether this stint is with a view to earning a contract with the Spireites or if Fleck is just maintaining his fitness with the squad while looking elsewhere for a new home.

The midfielder, who turned 33 last month, is on the lookout for his third club of 2024.
