Swansea City, Huddersfield Town keen on League Two star, report claims

Swansea City and Huddersfield Town are both interested in Fleetwood Town goalkeeper David Harrington, Football Insider has claimed.
Swansea City and Huddersfield Town might be in different divisions but both sides look to have their eyes on potential targets for the January transfer window.
The Swans will be looking to recruit players who can aid their bid to push up the Championship table while the Terriers are keen to return to the second-tier. They’re under the lead of former Swansea boss Michael Duff, who has them 5th in the League One table as it stands.
Now, ahead of the January transfer window, it is claimed the EFL pair have identified a similar target.
According to Football Insider, both Swansea City and Huddersfield Town are considering a move for Fleetwood Town goalkeeper David Harrington. The 24-year-old has been in strong form for the Cod Army, locking down the starting berth with six clean sheets in 15 games.
Swansea want a long-term successor to Lawrence Vigouroux and Harrington, who recently switched his international allegiance to Wales, is on the radar.
However, Fleetwood will be ‘extremely reluctant’ to let Harrington go in January given his importance to Charlie Adam’s side.
Making a name for himself
Harrington’s name might not be one familiar with many Swansea City and Huddersfield Town fans but his performances in League Two have been catching the eye.
He has international pedigree to his name too. Harrington was part of the Republic of Ireland squad before recently switching his allegiance to Wales, and he’s already earned a maiden call-up to Craig Bellamy’s side too.
His senior experience is fairly limited but with 18 clean sheets in 35 games for former side Cork City and now a strong Fleetwood Town record to his name, Harrington looks to be making a name for himself.
One for the long-term?
Clubs often plan for the distant future and that is seemingly the case at Swansea City amid claims Harrington could be a long-term heir for Vigouroux and their starting berth in goal.
However, it does feel a little premature for planning that far into the future.
The Chilean international might be 31, but he penned a three-year contract after signing in the summer and has been in fantastic form. Goalkeepers often play well into their 30s, and with his standard of performances since joining the Swans, there’s no indication they need to look at replacing him.
Perhaps Harrington is merely being kept in mind as a solid backup until the day comes for him to stake a claim for a starting spot, but Vigouroux’s success means Swansea should definitely be focusing their energy elsewhere in the hunt for potential targets.
