Salford City have brought in Jamie Russell and Danny Rose from Swindon Town to bolster their academy coaching set-up, as announced by their official club website.
Salford City have brought in the pair from their fellow League Two side this winter.
The Ammies have also appointed former Burnley and Wigan Athletic man Chris McCann as their Lead Youth Development Phase coach.
Russell has told their website: “It’s really exciting, I was here when the academy started and it was a Category 4 academy, and now I’m just really excited to being part of a Category 3 academy and looking to strive forward.
“When you work in development it’s always great to see young players come through and make debuts on the pitch, and also young players that you’ve worked with go on to have other careers across academies and stay in football, it’s certainly enjoyable.”
Meanwhile, Rose added: “This is an amazing opportunity to learn a great deal, and it’s a bit of a blank canvas in terms of how we can re-design some of the programme, so really understanding and implementing what an academy programme can look like from top to bottom and be able to have the ability to go and implement that, it’s a privilege really.”
Salford City bring in Swindon Town pair
Russell knows all about Salford City already following a spell with the fourth tier outfit from 2017 to 2020.
He has now returned to the North West as Academy Manager after a stint as Head of Football at Swindon Town.
The Ammies’ academy was upgraded to category 3 in the summer.
As for Rose, he has moved to the Peninsula Stadium as Head of Academy coaching.
The 36-year-old played over 600 games during his playing career as a midfielder.
He had spells with the likes of Oxford United, Northampton Town, Portsmouth and Swindon Town, among others.
Rose has delved into the coaching world since retiring and will now be looking forward to sinking his teeth into his new role.
What now?
Salford City are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Accrington Stanley.
They are currently sat in 12th place in the table and are only four points off the play-offs.
Karl Robinson’s side have 27 points on the board from their first 19 fixtures.
The Ammies won 3-0 at home to Notts County last time out in an eye-catching result.
