Watford, Swansea City and Blackburn Rovers are keen on Chesterfield attacker James Berry, according to a report by Football Insider.

The Championship trio are all keeping tabs on the winger ahead of the January transfer window. He helped Chesterfield win promotion from the National League last season and has since adapted well to life in League Two.

Berry, 23, has scored four goals in seven league games so far in this campaign for Paul Cook’s side and they are sat in 10th place in the table, four points off the play-offs. He is under contract with the Football League new boys until the summer of 2026.

In this latest update regarding his situation, Football Insider claim he has emerged on the radar of Watford, Swansea City and Blackburn Rovers in the second tier. The Spirerites could face a battle to keep hold of him this winter if a club higher up the pyramid comes calling for his signature.

Altrincham snapped subsequently snapped him up but he left for Macclesfield on an initial loan deal before making his move to the Silkmen permanent.

Berry was prolific for the Cheshire outfit and fired 53 goals in 79 matches to help them secure back-to-back promotion from the North West Counties League to the Northern Premier League.

Chesterfield landed him off the back of his impressive spell at the Leasing.com Stadium and he has carried on his form with the Spirerites.

What now?

Watford, Swansea City and Blackburn Rovers’ links to Berry are no surprise and his is a name to keep an eye out for over the next couple of months.

All three sides have made decent starts to the new campaign and could see him as someone to bolster their respective attacking departments.

As for Chesterfield, they will hope that they can keep hold of him for as long possible.
