Notts County make the short trip to face Chesterfield in League Two this weekend for Saturday’s early kick-off.

Notts County have enjoyed a fairly strong start to the season, currently occupying 5th spot in the table after their first 10 outings.

The Magpies’ hunt for back-to-back promotions fell flat last season, though the current campaign has brought renewed confidence despite losing their last two fixtures in all competitions.

Stuart Maynard’s side faced Northampton Town last time out in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, losing 2-0 on home soil as efforts from Ben Fox and Liam McCarron wrapped up three points for the League One outfit.

Chesterfield, meanwhile, were in the conversation for back-to-back promotions themselves following their National League triumph last season, but sit mid-table in 12th at present.

The Spireites have certainly been competitive having lost just twice so far, though five draws alongside their three victories mean they are just below the play-off spots for now.

Paul Cook’s men have drawn their last two fixtures 2-2 against Bromley and Walsall, coming from behind against the Saddlers last time out to secure a point courtesy of summer signing Dilan Markanday’s strike in the 67th minute.

Here, a handful of our writers make their prediction for the game…

Jacob Hackett

Notts County look a squad in good shape this term, though they will be desperate to improve on their last two showings.

“Three defeats in a row could seriously knock their confidence, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Magpies on the front foot from the start this weekend.

Chesterfield are no easy team to beat, however, and will fancy their chances on home soil against Maynard’s side.

“My gut feeling suggests that a score draw could be on the cards, so I am backing this encounter to end all square.”

Prediction: Chesterfield 1-1 Notts County

Chesterfield are yet to lose on home turf but draws have become a recurring theme. Notts County boast a great record on the road and I think they’ll claim another scalp here.

“The free-flowing, attacking County side that previously set the National League alight looks to be coming back to the fore and with Alassana Jatta up top, they look to have their new talisman.

“Ultimately, I think the attacking firepower of the visitors means they’ll have too much for the hosts.

“I’ll go for an away win.”

Prediction: Chesterfield 1-2 Notts County
