Craig Levein has left his position at St. Johnstone manager. He joined the club in November last year and strange to see him losing his job, after escaping relegation last season. Levein was in charge at Leicester from 29th of October 2004 to 25th of January 2006.

At the age of 59, turning 60 in October, Craig Levein has been on a footballing journey at several levels, coming in at St. Johnstone, from an advisor role at Brechin. During the years his relation to Hearts are of course special, being there as a player from 1983 to 1997, playing 326 league games for the club.

He has also been the manager at Hearts in two periods, from 2000 to 2004, and from 2017 to 2019, also had times in charge at Cowdenbeath, Dundee United, Raith Rovers, and also from 2009 to 2012 in charge of the Scotland national team. Life in football has it’s special turns, surely something Craig Levein has experienced.

Callum Davidson and Robbie Nielsen, both previous players on the books at Leicester are two men to look at as they have made their trade into football management. Callum Davidson was previously with St. Johnstone, but has joined Queens Park, and are their current head in charge. Sir Alex Ferguson started his football career with this traditional football club, that has been in the lower tiers of the Scottish League system, despite not getting a professional status before, November 2019. Funnily Sir Alex moved the other way from Queens Park to St. Johnstone, so this is a bit of a likewise journey.

Robbie Nielsen played for Leicester from 2009 to 2011. He has been in management since 2014, being in charge at Tynecastle in between the periods of Craig Levein. Nielsen has also had management periods at MK Dons and Dundee United, before moving over the pond to join Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2023.

Tampa Bay Rowdies is a club at the moment competing at the tier below MLS, USL Championship. This is a phoenix club from that NASL team of the 70’s and 80’s, having former Leicester winger Stuart Campbell in charge as well being a player at the club, so relations are many, of course also remembering Len Glover from those early days of the original club.
