
In Both Camps; Aberdeen

Leicester and Aberdeen are two clubs with great tradition in British football. A number of players have been in both camps. We have looked them up one by one.
James Maddison spent a season up at The Pittodrie. In the 2016-17 season he played on loan for The Dons. Maddison made 14 league appearances and scored 2 goals.
A few years ago, Aberdeen was in that golden era under Sir Alex Ferguson. The team had a Scottish international winger, Peter Weir. He later signed for Leicester. He played for Aberdeen from 1981 to 1987. From 1987 to 1988, he had a short stay at Leicester. He then moved back up to Scotland, signing for another of his former clubs, St. Mirren.
Jonny Hayes is another winger with a life at both clubs. Hayes joined Leicester from Reading in 2007. Played 7 league games before getting a move up north to join Inverness Caledonian Thistle. He later joined Aberdeen for a first spell at Pittodrie, lasting from 2012 to 2017. Then a move to Celtic happened. He rejoined Aberdeen in 2022, staying until 2024, before hanging up his boots. He represented Ireland, winning four caps.
Alan Maybury joined Aberdeen on loan from Leicester. He played for The Dons in the 2007-08 season. Maybury represented Ireland at international level, staying at Leicester from 2005 to 2008.
Mark McGhee was for short while in charge at Leicester. He had his best years in the game while with Aberdeen. He played for The Dons from 1979 to 1984. He was also among the European Cup Winners Cup winners.
Mike Newell was a Leicester transfer record sale when joining Everton for a fee of £1.1million. He was signed from Luton a year before, costing signing, joining from Luton for a fee of £350.000. He joined Aberdeen a few years later. He played at The Pittodrie from 1997 to 1999. During that time, he made 44 league appearances and scored 6 goals.
One to mention is Morgan Brown. He never played at full senior level with neither clubs. He joined Cypros club Aris Limassol in 2019 and has added up 121 league games, scoring 5 goals. The Leicester born midfielder has one the Cypriotic league in the 2022-23 season. He has also represented Aris Limmasol in European games.
