Didier Deschamps has been taken aback by Antoine Griezmann’s (33) international retirement announcement. According to SaberDesfarges, the France national team coach planned on calling up the Atlético de Madrid midfielder for Les Bleus’ upcoming games for the next international break. Deschamps will announce this Thursday in Paris the France squad for Nations League games against Israel, on October 10 at Budapest, and Belgium, four days later at Brusells.

Deschamps is expected to release a tribute to Griezmann in the next hours. If not, he will no doubt be quizzed about the matter when facing the press this Thursday during his squad announcement. Griezmann called time on his international career this Monday morning after 137 caps, playing a vital part in France’s wins in the 2018 World Cup and the 2020-2021 Nations League.

Desfarges understands that Griezmann announced his decision to France’s staff in the last hours and that physical and mental fatigue explains his decision to hang up his France boots.
