According to RMC Sport, Ibrahima Konaté (25) is one of three candidates under consideration to captain France during the international break. Les Bleus are currently without a recognised captain for their upcoming matches due to the absence of Real Madrid duo Kylian Mbappé and Aurélien Tchouaméni.

Mbappé is absent for the second consecutive international break, and the former Monaco midfielder is currently out injured with a sprained ankle that could keep him out of action for between four and six weeks. Tchouaméni was named vice-captain by Didier Deschamps during the last international break.

Three man shortlist

The Liverpool defender is on a three-man shortlist to be named as the stand-in captain as France prepare to face Israel and Italy in the UEFA Nations League. N’Golo Kanté and Jules Kounde are also being considered by Didier Deschamps in the absence of the Madrid pair. The former Chelsea midfielder would offer the Les Bleus boss a more experienced option but after offering Tchouaméni the role of vice-captain that is not a priority.
