Manchester United have enquired about Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku (26), according to a report from L’Equipe. The Paris Saint-Germain Academy graduate is reportedly unhappy regarding his playing time under the tenure of Enzo Maresca. Nkunku only started once in the Premier League, where he only featured for 154 minutes this season. However, the former RB Leipzig sensation is the team’s best goalscorer with ten strikes, nine of them in the Carabao Cup and the Conference League.
The outlet understands that Nkunku had no intention of joining Chelsea last year to feature in Europe’s third-best competition and play second-fiddle in the Premier League, with Maresca favoring the likes of Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson instead of the France international. L’Equipe adds that Nkunku is currently considering his immediate future at Chelsea, which would confirm Sky SportsGermany‘s report. As of now, Nkunku has yet to inform Chelsea of his desire to leave Stamford Bridge, but several clubs have sounded the Blues out regarding the striker’s potential availability.
Among these clubs is Manchester United. The Red Devils remain in the bottom half of the Premier League standings and would reportedly be ready for a statement of intent in the upcoming winter transfer window. Given Chelsea are packed with firepower up front, with Pedro Neto, João Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk also short of playing time, the Blues may open the door to a transfer, L’Equipe adds.
