According to reports coming from L’Équipe’s TV channel, Olympique de Marseille sporting director Mehdi Benatia has attempted to convince Al-Nassr defender and former France international Aymeric Laporte (30) to join the club. The current Spain international, who joined Saudi Arabia in 2023 is currently on a contract with Al-Nassr which runs until 2026.
Since his official appointment as Marseille sporting director, Benatia’s brief has now been extended to all footballing aspects of the club – including now a wider scope for recruiting players. The former Moroccan international defender reportedly wants to target ambitious transfers to turn OM “back into a major European club,” according to L’Équipe‘s TV channel.
Elsewhere, it was reported this morning that OM have looked into signing Brighton & Hove Albion forward Evan Ferguson. The Irish international striker has not been the only player linked with the club lately, with Ajax’s Brian Brobbey also on the Les Olympiens’ radar according to RMC Sport.
