Recalled to the France squad for the ongoing international break, N’Golo Kanté looks set to captain the side when they face Israel on Thursday, as per a report from Le Parisien.
Kylian Mbappé, the designated captain of Les Bleus, has once again been controversially omitted from the squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Israel and Italy. With Antoine Griezmann having surprisingly announced his international retirement in October, Didier Deschamps is yet to name a full-time vice-captain.
During the last international break, it was Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni who inherited the armband. However, a minor injury has ruled him out of the upcoming games and he is therefore absent from Deschamps’ squad. In his absence, Kanté is very likely to wear the armband, according to Le Parisien.
Kanté was designated captain back in early September when Mbappé started on the bench in a 2-0 win over Belgium. Kanté also briefly wore the armband at Euro 2024.
