Rennes are targeting Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath (21), according to a report this Tuesday from Foot Mercato. The struggling Ligue 1 club is looking at a raft of reinforcements this winter to turn Jorge Sampaoli’s fortunes around. Rennes have already signed France goalkeeper Brice Samba from Lens, Al-Nassr midfielder Seko Fofana and Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi. Now, Rennes are looking to bolster their midfield options as Denmark international Albert Grønbæk and Baptiste Santamaria have left the club this winter, respectively to Southampton and OGC Nice.

Foot Mercato understands that Gourna-Douath is a priority signing for Rennes to bring competition to defensive midfielder Azor Matusiwa. The France U21 international left formative club Saint-Etienne in 2022 to sign for Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg over a €13m move. Gourna-Douath has featured 23 times this season. He is tied with Red Bull Salzburg over a contract set to expire in 2027.
