Liverpool face their toughest week of the season yet as they prepare to take on Real Madrid and Manchester City at Anfield.

The Reds have so far navigated a tough November fixture list with relative ease, but are set to see the difficulty level ramped up yet again.

In truth, Madrid are coming into the game a little light, though. Vinicius Junior will not play against Liverpool after suffering a hamstring injury, while the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygo are also ruled out.

The Liverpool squad has a few problems of its own, however, with Arne Slot missing a handful of key performers.

Just how deep those issues run was set to be revealed on Tuesday, with the Reds being put through their paces at the AXA Training Centre.

And as the Liverpool players reported for duty, journalist David Lynch spotted one important figure still missing.

Alisson Becker misses Liverpool training

Liverpool’s fixture list has been a tough read for supporters over the past six weeks or so.

But this coming week or two was always looking like being the trickiest of all. Home games with Real and City are followed up by aways at Newcastle and Everton.

Fans had really hoped to have everyone fit by now. However, reporting on X, Lynch noted that Alisson Becker was still missing from the main group of goalkeepers training on Tuesday.

Alisson returned to training last week but still was not ready to play against Southampton.

Slot predicted Alisson would not play against Real Madrid during his pre-Saints press conference and judging by Lynch’s update, that is unlikely to change.

“As expected, no Alisson Becker training with the goalkeepers ahead of Real Madrid's visit to Anfield,” says the reporter.

In happier news, Trent Alexander-Arnold was out to prepare alongside the main group.

Will Alisson Becker be back to face Man City?

With Alisson still missing, Caoimhin Kelleher is set for a big night at Anfield on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old has played in the Champions League before, of course, but never against such heralded opposition as Real.

From there, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool’s £67m goalkeeper will be back in time to face Man City.

Kelleher was in goal last time the champions came to Anfield and put in a superb display as Liverpool should have won.

And unless Alisson makes some unexpected progress over the next two or three days, we’d expect that Kelleher will be asked to go again on Sunday.
