'Amazing': Virgil van Dijk picks his favourite match for Liverpool against Man City ahead of Sunday's showdown
Today at 10:00 AM
Liverpool take on Manchester City this weekend in one of the Premier League’s biggest fixtures.
The Reds and the Citizens have regularly faced off for league titles over recent years, making this one of the most highly anticipated games in the calendar.
As it often does, the first meeting of the season between the sides comes at Anfield.
Despite their dominance over the years, City have a remarkably poor record at Liverpool’s stadium, having only beaten the Reds once in 21 years worth of visits.
Now trailing Liverpool by eight points at the top of the Premier League table, Pep Guardiola and his team will need to change that on Sunday.
One of the big players in this fixture over the years has been Virgil van Dijk. And ahead of the match, the Reds captain picked out his favourite meetings with Sunday’s opponents.
Virgil van Dijk picks favourite Man City encounter
After leading Liverpool to a win over Real Madrid in mid-week, Van Dijk will be absolutely locked in for Sunday.
In what could still be his final season with the Reds, the Dutchman will know he has a big chance of lifting the Premier League trophy in May.
If they can get the win against City, the odds of that happening will shorten massively.
As he prepares for the game, perhaps Van Dijk will call on some happy memories against the champions to help.

There are certainly plenty of them to look back on and speaking to Optus Sport, the 33-year-old tried to pick his favourites.
“I don’t know, you know!” he smiled, after pondering the question for a moment. “Maybe the one that Mo scored on the break when Alisson kicked it long and Cancelo missed it, that was a good one.
“Or the home game where Fabinho scored from distance, that goal as well. Those two games were amazing.”
Liverpool fitness update ahead of Man City meeting
In something of a rare occurrence, Liverpool are heading into Sunday’s game against City as strong favourites.
While the champions are on a six-game winless run, the Reds have clocked up half a dozen victories in a row.

City also have injury issues going into the game, with the likes of Rodri and Mateo Kovacic unavailable.
Liverpool have their own problems too, however. As Rousing The Kop exclusively revealed on Thursday, Conor Bradley is set for a month on the side lines, while Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa are all likely to miss Sunday’s game.
Thankfully, Arne Slot has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is ready to start in what is a relief for the Liverpool head coach.
The Reds are still waiting on news about Ibrahima Konate after Slot kept his cards close to the chest during his Thursday press conference. Van Dijk may have a different partner for this one, then. But hopefully he make a new favourite memory this weekend.
