Liverpool remain top of the Premier League table after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Chelsea at Anfield.

Jamie Carragher compared Arne Slot to Jurgen Klopp during the match, with the Dutchman having taken over from the German in the summer.

Liverpool went ahead through a Mohamed Salah penalty, only to be pegged back by Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

But Curtis Jones put the Reds back ahead shortly after, securing a huge win for Slot and the Merseyside club.

In the only real downside of their Premier League clash at Anfield, Liverpool lost Diogo Jota to injury, with the Portugal attacker having been forced off early with the issue.

Former Everton man Gordon and Liverpool star Jones have both been selected in recent England squads, which has undoubtedly helped their friendship.

But Sunday was all about the Reds midfielder, who produced one of his best-ever displays in a Liverpool shirt.

He was ready to impress from the very first minute at Anfield, and stepped up after Slot decided to rest Alexis Mac Allister from the start.

It was a truly mature and professional performance from the academy graduate, who has now given his manager a real headache going forward.

Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have largely been the preferred midfield trio thus far, but that could all change after the stunning display from Jones.
