Judging by the grand scheme of things, Arne Slot couldn’t have imagined a better start as Liverpool boss after taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

The Dutchman has lost just twice across all competitions with more than half the season played as the Reds lead the way in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

A handful of players who didn’t really set the world alight Klopp have improved under Slot, with Ryan Gravenberch, Luis Diaz and Curtis Jones all producing a lot more consistently in the current campaign.

However, Andy Robertson’s form continues to nosedive, with this Scotsman not covering himself in too much glory in recent months.

And if reports are to be believed, the Liverpool left-back’s Anfield swansong may have just begun.

Since joining the club from Hull City in the summer of 2017, Robertson has been an indispensable asset for the club and is undoubtedly a Liverpool legend.

In his prime, he was a bundle of energy and one of the best crossers in the Premier League as he contributed at both ends of the pitch to forge a fantastic full-back partnership with Trent Alexander-Arnold.

However, his performances this season have made it quite clear that his power are starting to wane and with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2026, Liverpool could look to offload him this summer.

Additionally, Liverpool are really interested in signing Milos Kerkez, with the player said to prefer a move to Anfield over other suitors like Manchester United.

Now, with Kostas Tsimikas already at the club, the Reds will be faced with a tough decision in the summer transfer window if they complete a move for the Hungarian.

Tsimikas is good enough to be a backup left and could well take Robertson’s place in the lineup in the coming week as the relentless Scot hasn’t been at his best.

At the end of the season, Robertson would have just a year left on his contract, so Liverpool could feel it would be in the best interests of the club to move him on in the summer instead of keeping a declining player and losing him for free a year later.

Kerkez is valued at around £50m and if the Reds snap him up in the summer, Robertson is likely to be the first big sale of the Slot era.

Kerkez is the perfect Robertson replacement

The Hungarian was snapped up by Bournemouth last summer when Richard Hughes was still with the Cherries, so he’s clearly a player well-known to the Liverpool hierarchy.

Kerkez is a bundle of energy and his relentless running and work rate at both ends of the pitch is reminiscent of Robertson.

In an interview with MLSZ, Hungary coach Marco Rossi lavished praise on Kerkez’s skillset, suggesting that he more than thrive in the Premier League ahead of his move to Bournemouth last season.

“Milos is a particularly aggressive and fast player, so I don’t think he’ll have any problems with the style of play typical of the Premier League.

“The English Premier League has a much more physical style than that of the Dutch, but this won’t cause him any problems.”

With two seasons of Premier League football under his belt, the young left-back is tailor-made to slot right into the Reds’ starting XI if they manage to win the race for him in the summer
