Liverpool earned an enormous three points in the Premier League on Saturday as they snatched a late win over Brentford.

It had been another tricky game for the Reds and they looked on course for a third successive draw before Darwin Nunez stepped up with two late goals.

The win put Liverpool seven points clear in the Premier League table ahead of Arsenal hosting Aston Villa in Saturday’s evening kick-off.

In truth, it was no less than Liverpool’s performance deserved, as they peppered the Brentford goal with shot after shot.

The Bees certainly played their part in what was an entertaining match, but the spoils rightly went to the away side.

And speaking after seeing his team undone by two late goals, Brentford boss Thomas Frank gave a very classy assessment of this Liverpool team.

Thomas Frank hails Liverpool as ‘best in the world’

There were some poor elements to Liverpool’s game on Saturday. This was not the Reds quite at their swashbuckling best.

But Brentford is not an easy place to go. The Bees have been beaten only once at the Gtech Community Stadium this season – and that was against second-placed Arsenal.

Speaking to BBC Sport, though, Frank claimed that Arne Slot’s Liverpool are ‘a level above’ the Gunners right now.

“I thought we played a really good game against the best team in the world right now,” said the Danish coach.

“We just played City and Arsenal and now Liverpool, in a short amount of time. For me they’re a level above the two teams. They’re complete. Their work ethic, the way they track back, are good indicators.

“They’re so good all over the pitch,” Franks adds. “Such a threat going forward. These are really, really good. It’s the best team in the Premier League and the world. They’re huge favourites to win it [the title].”

Frank praise holds weight

As Frank points out, his Brentford team have come up against both Arsenal and City in recent teams, as well as facing Liverpool on Saturday.

Therefore, the fact that he quite clearly thinks Liverpool are a step above is hugely telling.

Frank is an excellent football coach and one who obviously knows a thing or two about the finer points of the game.

For him to heap so much genuine praise on Liverpool despite having just been beaten by them says everything about the Reds quality.

We may not see it when they’re dropping points in a title race and driving us up the wall, but this is a special, special team.
