Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz continued his fine form for club and country this season with another memorable performance as Colombia romped to a 4-0 win against Chile in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Diaz, Davinson Sanchez, Luis Sinisterra and Jhon Duran all got their names on the scoresheet in what turned out to be a routine victory at home.

The Colombian has established himself as Arne Slot’s first-choice left-winger ahead of Cody Gakpo and judging by his current form, he is set to keep his place in the team as Liverpool prepare for fixtures against Chelsea and Arsenal.

The 27-year-old showed his class against a hapless Chile side and earned rave reviews from the Colombian media for his performance.

Starting in attack alongside Jhon Cordoba and James Rodriguez, Diaz ran the opposition defenders ragged with his quality on the ball and got himself on the scoresheet in the second half.

Describing his performance as ‘brilliant,’ ESPN lauded Diaz’s ability to take defenders on, although they mentioned that his end product wasn’t quite at his best despite his goal.

“The winger regained his form and put in a brilliant performance in Barranquilla. He drove the defenders crazy on the left flank, winning most of the direct duels and passing without problems.

“At times he lacked the composure to finish the plays well, but his effort was rewarded with the second goal of the afternoon.

“Lucho took advantage of a pass from James Rodríguez to score inside the area with a right-footed shot that caught the Chilean goalkeeper walking.”

Luis Diaz’s stats vs Chile

Diaz played 76 minutes and got his name on the scoresheet while also completing four dribbles and one key pass.

The 27-year-old’s relentless running was a feature of his gameplay and Chile couldn’t get near him when he was in full swing, representing ominous signs for Premier League defenders.

Diaz was rated 7.3 on Sofascore for his performance and will look to carry on his rich vein of form as Liverpool prepare for a difficult run of fixtures after the international break.

Signed for £49m in January 2022, Diaz is finally starting to produce the goods consistently and looks set to have his best-ever season, having already scored seven goals for Liverpool and Colombia so far.
